Stanford DEFCON Student Network

Who Are We? We are students from across campus who care deeply about the intersection of technology, national security and capital. We have a range of backgrounds, as engineers, entrepreneurs, researchers, members of the military, policy-makers, and investors. We are driven by a common interest to protect national security with advanced technology. We seek to understand the unique challenges and opportunities in this space and provide a forum for students to connect, learn, and develop solutions, together and with industry. 

You don't need military or government experience to make a difference in the field of national security and technology. If you're interested in emerging technologies (quantum, AI/ML, etc.), defense technology (technologies with clear military  applications), or anything else (e.g., energy), this network is for you. 

What do we Believe? Radical collaboration is at the core of who we are. This group is designed to transcend any perceived academic silos. On matters of national security, collaboration between Silicon Valley's technology, Wall Street's capital markets, and Washington's policy centers are vital. 

Academic environments are a microcosm of this larger national opportunity and Stanford University is no different.

We are creating a venue for recurring collaboration between engineers, MBAs, emerging policy practitioners, developers, law students, and any other field of study interested in national security.

National security problems are always multi-faceted and often require an interdisciplinary approach to solving them. 

What's our mission? Build awareness of the toughest national security challenges and seek to understand how to solve them through the application of advanced technology.
