Malaina Kapoor is a freshman at Stanford University. She is the co-author of a book about women's rights in Afghanistan forthcoming from Penguin Random House. In 2020, Malaina was awarded a PEN America Fellowship. In that role, she advocated for international human rights, press freedoms, and election integrity. Malaina previously served on the management team of PRERNA, an Afghan refugee resettlement organization. Additionally, she co-founded Oxford Day Academy, a social-justice oriented charter high school in East Palo Alto, CA., and was producer of In Deep, a nationally-syndicated public affairs radio broadcast program. Malaina is also an opera singer and has performed twice at Carnegie Hall.
